Katherine

 Arrived at Katherine to a great Caravan Park nestled under beautiful trees - we are looking for shade now as it is 30+ deg!   After lunch headed to do a quick food shop for essentials & guys went to bottle shop which was quite an interesting experience!     They had to produce their ID & say where they were staying & where they would be drinking their alcohol.   Tony has his ID on his Stocard which they wouldn’t accept first & when Dean produced his licence they said it wasn’t him 😂😂 he does look a little different with his beard 😜

Back for a swim in the pool & then Elle & John (friends from Angaston) came over for a happy hour 🥂🍾


Sunday we drove to Edith Falls to the waterhole!   Coffee at cafe first & then a swim in the much cooler water than we were use to!   Very refreshing!  Back to the Cafe for lunch & their famous Barra burger 🍔




Quick stop at Information Centre to sort out next part of our trip & then onto the thermal springs in Katherine.  These were a little narrower but faster flowing.  A lot of fun floating down stream.   Back to camp for a rest & over to John & Elle’s for another happy hour before heading home to dinner.





Busy morning for our last day in Katherine - little pack up & then ready for our tour on the Katherine Gorge!   Around 60 people on the boat & our tour guide was very informative about the culture of the gorge & the surrounds.   We did see 2 crocodiles sunning themselves.   We finished at one gorge & then off the boat to walk along rocks & the board walk to the next boat to continue downstream on the next gorge.   Sensational views all around.



After our cruise down the Katherine Gorge headed home for a quick lunch & back to Woolworths for supplies for our next camp - well Jude & I couldn’t believe it - there were so many people shopping, shelves were bare & it looked like everyone had panicked thinking there was a lock down.   There isn’t, there are just so many people up here.  The line at the check out was something neither of us had seen - so long it went from one end of the shop to the other.  We were so glad to get out of there and back home.   

No cooking tonight - our friend John’s birthday tonight so over for a drink & then to the Big Fig Bistro in the caravan park to celebrate, so no one had to drive 😂 beautiful setting under a huge fig tree which was all lit up.   The food was amazing & a good night was had by all & the Mango Daquari’s weren’t too bad either 🍹

  Thinking I was going to have the afternoon to read & blog there was a sudden change of plans & we de idea to visit Ellery Creek Big Hole this afternoon instead of from our next camp we are moving to.    The drive was a lot longer than we thought  & we had to be back by 5pm as they lock the gates so no-one else can come in.   We did tell them at the kiosk we were going & they said to let them know when we were back,    The drive was worth it as Ellery Creek was a beautiful waterhole surrounded by colourful hills & trees. West MacDonnell Ranges - Finding our Next Camp

Had a very quiet night -quite a few sleeping in tents on top of their cars, tents on the lawn, 2 caravans (including ours) & 4 Chinese people sleeping in the back of their cars - they were very friendly & quite chattie 😜.  Left around 8 am to try & get a camp at Ormiston George but on arrival found they were all taken & were all huddled in together 🤨  Heading into Ormiston Gorge  We decided to keep going to Redbank Campground to see if any sites there - it was a dirt road in & once there, we found plenty of sites.   The roads around were very tight for caravans (bollards on both sides of road) & looked like they were hard to back vans into!   On looking around there was one camp full of “I think delinquent kids” camping for the weekend & throwing rocks at whatever they could find 😫 it looked very hot in there as well (35 deg today) & I was feeling a bit anxious about staying so decided to keep moving!     Our Plan C w...

Dundee Beach - trip to Crab Claw Island Resort

  Morning spent washing in the laundry & gossiping with other campers, so nice to have clean sheets, towels & clothes again.   Van cleaned & decided on a trip to Crab Claw Island Resort (about 50 kms away) The restaurant was like being in Bali or Fiji with open air tables on a deck overlooking the beach with overhead fans blowing in the breeze.  Tony enjoyed a chorizo & prawn pizza & I had my fish & chips! Lots of helicopters landing on the beach dropping people off for lunch.  We have 4 helicopters at Dundee which take off quite regularly. Had a swim in the resort pool after lunch & chatted to an interesting 31 yo travelling with her sister & brother-in-law.  She was in her own van.   Also an interesting family with 2 small boys.   Back to restaurant for our first mango Icecream.
